Data Breach and HIPAA Violations Update

While we were out of town, an LMT staff member gained access to our systems and took our client list without our permission. These were not just the clients this person provided massages to, it was most of, if not the entire list.

This list contained their protected private data such as: first name, last name, address, phone number, and email. This information did NOT contain any financial information. This person is on surveillance entering my office minutes before the file was accessed on the computer in my office and leaving the office 11 minutes later. No one else was in the clinic at the time. They then used that list to send out a mass email on June 17th 2023 informing people of their new business. They even mentioned that they used to work for us in that email in an attempt to give their new business some credibility and reputation.

You will know you are a part of this breach if you received an unsolicited email from the Body Tonic i.e. Jaci Short (500 willow ave suite 315, Council Bluffs IA 51503). Check your spam folder as these types of emails typically go to spam.

If you gave her your information and/or knew she was going to send out an email, then you are NOT a part of this breach.

However, hundreds of you received that email when you never gave her permission to contact you. Many of you reached out to let us know this happened as soon as you received that email on Sat, June 17th 2023 as you are not her client, have never met her and/or do not even know who she is. I cannot thank you all enough for informing us. We were also informed about Iowa Code 715 section C which says we had to notify law enforcement, our platform, our insurance, massage therapy licensing board of Iowa and our clients. Which we did.

As a licensed LMT in IA, all of this information is a matter of public record, so I am not 'DOXXING' her. I am providing it to you to make it easier to file a complaint should you decide to do so.

She continues to try and associate her new business with ours by mentioning us in her information section. She IS NOT associated with us and while she says she was our 'lead therapist"- that was a distinction she asked for and was given because she was Maya's best friend. It means nothing.

I have known this person for 28 years. She worked for me for only the last year of the almost 8 years we have been in business. I was blinded by friendship and trusted her with my business while I was out of town. I apologize to all of you. I never expected her to do this and I am sorry.

Please know that NO ONE will ever have that kind of access again.

We have spent the last 8 years cultivating our impeccable reputation with all of you and having your trust means the world to us. I am so very sorry she broke that trust.
