Massage therapists often ask patients to drink water after a massage. Why?
The typical answer given is because massage release built up toxins in the body and you need water to flush it out. Now this may be true but there is not enough research on ther subject to support this claim- so why water?
Another reason may be that massage taxes the body the way a 3 mile walk would (without the calorie burn-sadly) so the body needs the same amount of water as it would if you had walked 3 miles. But the research is out on that oe too.
I thinkit is fairly safe to say that massage manipilates tissues and tissues contaian water. if the fascia does not have enough water, it gets sticky and ‘knots’ or bundles can occurr. so drinking water is a way to make sure your body is well hydrated.
